Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a particular style?
My style can be summed up as romantic and natural storytelling. I believe true feelings and emotion cannot be forced for the camera. I employ a candid, nonintrusive approach in every one of my sessions, with a belief that if everyone has fun, the results will be lovely. The romance is always there, and my job is to anticipate and capture it in a way which will look fresh for many years.
I strive to work in a manner which allows the couples to let their guard down and enjoy themselves, a kind of “I’m here, but I’m not really here” approach. Minimising the amount of posing and formal shots also helps reduce the camera fright even the most confident of people can experience on their wedding day.
Also, I have the ability to see and capture beauty, elegance, colour, and structure in the smallest details, often overlooked by others.
What do you cover?
Our full day coverage starts with the bridal & groom preparations, through to and inclusive of the first few dances.
What is included in your packages?
For information on our packages, please read here.
Do you offer smaller packages for a few hours, such as for ceremony/reception only?
Yes, we do. Please get in touch and have a chat with us about what you need. We'll create a bespoke package to suit you.
How far do you travel?
I'm always looking for an incentive to get out of town, so I will travel as far as needed to cover your day.
Within Scotland, I do not charge for transportation, but I do require accommodation if I feel I cannot return home safely the same night.
Outwith Scotland, I will recharge the cost of the transportation and accommodation.
How do we book the date?
Once you tell me what you are looking for, I'll prepare a quotation with several options. After you choose a package that suits your needs, I'll send you the contract for electronic signature. After signing, payment of a non-refundable deposit of £500 will guarantee the day booked in my calendar.
Can you supply a second photographer?
Yes, of course! I highly recommend it for increased coverage for weddings larger than 70-80 guests. For full day coverage, the rate for a second photographer is £200.
A lot of friends are having an "unplugged wedding". What is it, and do you recommend it?
An unplugged wedding simply means the bride & groom are opting to ask their guests to turn off their phones, iPads, cameras and other digital distractions during a part of, or the entire wedding. This is especially requested by couples during the ceremony, the cutting of the cake, and the first dance. Oftentimes, this is accompanied by the bride & groom's request that guests refrain from posting any photographs on social media before the bride & groom share their own.
There are many reasons to have an unplugged wedding - a couple of good articles can be found here and here. This article is quite comprehensive in listing ways of asking your guests to participate in an unplugged wedding in a polite or amusing manner.
Personally, I would recommend it, as I find it respectful to pay attention to the ceremony without a screen between oneself and the couple.
When will we receive our photographs?
I endeavour to deliver your photographs within 6-8 weeks; however, it may be faster during off-season and slower during peak season.
How will we receive our photographs?
You will receive a beautifully presented USB memory stick with the edited photographs of your day.
Your photographs will also be available in a password-protected online gallery for your friends and family to share and purchase.
How many photographs will we receive?
Every wedding is different. I usually strive to provide a minimum of 500 edited photographs for full day weddings, but many factors such as wedding type, size, duration, weather, location and season influence this number.
May we print the photographs?
If you wish to have your photographs printed, you may do so. You will be issued a print release for personal use. However, I strongly advise allowing me to print them with one of our partner professional labs. Professional Fine Art paper quality, thickness, finish, colour vibrance and retention are far superior to commercial paper (Tesco, Boots, etc), and well worth the slightly higher cost.
All photographs issued with a print release must not be modified, have filters added, or be used for any kind of commercial purpose (resale, advertising, etc). The copyright to all photographs remains with the photographer.
What is a pre-wedding/engagement session?
An engagement session is a fun photo session designed for the couple and the photographer to get to know each other a bit better before the wedding. This session will help you become more comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day.
Besides being lots of fun, you will also have a set of beautiful, romantic photographs to use before or at your wedding for decoration, stationery, Save the Dates, or Thank You cards.
How does it work?
We usually go to a location of your choice - this could be where you first met, had your first kiss, got engaged, or simply a pretty place you like. Typically, we'll spend about 1 hour together.
How much does it cost?
The rate is £250 for a 1-1.5hr session.
What do we receive?
You will receive all edited photographs with a license to print, and a password-protected online gallery for your friends and family to share and purchase.
You may purchase individual, framed, or mounted prints, canvases and other items in a variety of sizes and finishes.
Do we need to be engaged to book a couple session?
Absolutely not! I love taking photographs of happy couples for various occasions - anniversaries, celebrations, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc. You don't even have to buy them for yourself - you can purchase a session as a gift for friends!
